Introduction

Personal Statement:

Film Production

My fascination for film and television has stemmed from the ability to create out of this world content that we would not find in our day to day lives. They say a picture is worth a thousand words, now imagine a 30-minute film shot at 25fps, that's 45000 pictures, the imagination is endless.

Throughout the last two years of high school, I was a volunteer at my local golf club. During this time I was tasked with maintaining the grounds which frequently meant I had to change the hole locations, cut the fairway/greens to a certain length and collect every ball on the practice range using the specially equipped quadbike. These tasks were dangerous as at any time there could be from 5 - 20 golfers on the course this meant that every day I would coordinate with fellow staff preparing for the day in order to keep an effective, productive and safe workflow. While studying my second year of IT at the College of West Anglia I started to experiment with graphic design using Premiere Pro to create graphics for my programs. This was also around the time that the film John Wick had been released. This piqued my interest in action films as the directors were able to develop an emotionally moving film with the combination of the seamless flow of action sequences. This, in turn, created the action masterpiece and became one of my inspirations to turn to Media.

During the course of Level 2 Creative Media, I was tasked with helping Springboard TV with their weekly stream which was broadcasted live to an audience from Youtube and Twitch. This taught me how to work in a high pressured environment with a production team where I have taken the roles of Camera Operator, Vision Mixer, Lights, Sound and Autocue. From this experience I have been able to apply it to my future productions when I am in need of a studio. I have also undertaken work experience with Springboard TV, which included working with a team of three, whereby we used a two camera set up to conduct interviews and record the NCS graduation. This taught me how to work in a public space while on set and how to properly light the area.

I am currently in my final year of College studying Level 3 Creative Media where I am predicted to achieve a Merit while I personally plan to achieve a distinction by showing my ever-growing knowledge of techniques and styles when it comes to Productions.

My hobbies include watching Formula 1, I am an avid fan of Lewis Hamilton who just won his 5th world championship, moreover I am fascinated by the Camera Operator's abilities to keep the cars in the shot when they are travelling up to 250mph. I frequently create motion graphics in my free time, which I proceed to show my peers to gather feedback that I can then apply to the piece. This is something I am passionate about and is something that is frequently utilise in my work.

At university, I plan to widen my reach and gain new opportunities, all the while learning more about the media industry that I plan to be a part of. Video is such a powerful medium. It can be used to convey triumph, like the first moon landing but also being used to show pure evil such as the Holocaust. As technology advances, more people will have access to this medium via Youtube and the internet. The future is very exciting and I want to be able to apply this to my work to not only entertain but to educate and enlighten people.
